Anders was born in 1768. Anders' father was Christen Andersen Høstgaard and his mother was Karen Andersdatter.  His paternal grandparents were Anders Christensen Høstgaard and Karen Christensdatter; his maternal grandparents were Anders Jensen Møller and <Unknown>. He had two brothers and two sisters, named Peder, Peder, Kierstine and Christine.  He was the oldest of the five children.
