Mary's father was Thomas Caruthers and her mother was Cathrine Roney.  Her maternal grandparents were James Roney and Catherine Balmer. She had two sisters named Catherine and Jane.  She was the oldest of the three children.  She died at the age of 86 on February 4th, 1941 in Paisley.
