Brash's father was Alexander Brash and her mother was Janet Crawford.  Her paternal grandparents were David Brash and Margaret Easton. She had five brothers and a sister, named David, Alexander, Thomas, Thomas, David and Sibella.  She was the third youngest of the seven children.
