William was born about 1770.  William's father was Thomas Marshall and his mother was Ann Pease.  His paternal grandparents were Randall Marshall and Hannah Chew; his maternal grandparents were David Pease and Elizabeth. He had four brothers and a sister, named John, Randall, Thomas, David and Rebecca.  He was the third oldest of the six children.  He died before 1840.
