John was born on September 2nd, 1769.  John's father was Thomas Marshall and his mother was Ann Pease.  His paternal grandparents were Randall Marshall and Hannah Chew; his maternal grandparents were David Pease and Elizabeth. He had four brothers and a sister, named William, Randall, Thomas, David and Rebecca.  He was the second oldest of the six children.  He died at the age of 83 in September 1852.
