Sarah was born about 1752.  Sarah's father was Col Southey Simpson and her mother was Comfort.  Her paternal grandfather was Thomas Simpson Jr and her paternal grandmother is Rhoda Rhody Clark. She had five brothers and two sisters, named Selby, John, Southey, Elijah, George, Leah and Elizabeth.  She was the fourth oldest of the eight children.
