Leah was born about 1744.  Leah's father was Col Southey Simpson and her mother was Comfort.  Her paternal grandfather was Thomas Simpson Jr and her paternal grandmother is Rhoda Rhody Clark. She had five brothers and two sisters, named Selby, John, Southey, Elijah, George, Elizabeth and Sarah.  She was the oldest of the eight children.
