    WILLIAM B. MARSHALL, a successful agriculturist of Bell county, was born in the then Territory of Arkansas, December 30, 1832, a son of John Marshall. At the age of seventeen years our subject emigrated with his father to Texas, locating in Bell county, where he attended the common schools. In 1855 he began life for himself as a farmer, and continued that occupation until 1861, when he enlisted in Davidson's company. McCulloch's regiment, for one year, and remained in the service during the war. After serving for a time on the frontier of Texas, he was sent to Louisiana, on Banks' raid on Red river. He received no wounds but had a good horse killed from under him. Mr. Marshall received many furloughs, and was at home at the close of the struggle, after which he resumed his farming and stock-raising.
    He was married in 1855, to Miss Martha J. Kiser, who was born March 12, 1839, a daughter of William Kiser, a native of Alabama. He came to Williamson county, Texas, in 1849, where he died soon afterward. Mr. and Mrs. Marshall have had nine children, six now living: Margaret A., wife of William Silvers, a farmer of Bell county; Martha J., wife of Jesse Shaw; John P., a farmer of this county; Mary E., wife of Joe Goolsby; Arabella, who married James Hagler; and J.W., at home. Mr. Marhall is a Democrat in his political views.
