John Robert Tom? was born on September 3rd, 1866 in Stringtown Community, Newton county, Texas.  John Robert Tom?'s father was John Robert Young Pap Marshall and his mother was Morning Caroline  Madie Jordan (Chickasaw PROB).  His paternal grandparents were Mathew Marshall and Mary Ann Polly McCullar McCullough; his maternal grandparents are Henry A Jordan and Mary Ann Roberts. He had seven brothers and four sisters, named James Mathew Jim, Daniel David Dan, Isaac Spruill ? Hall, William Marion, Thomas Clayborn Claiborne, Henry Houston, Asa Green, Sarah Jane, Sarah Jane, Mary Elizabeth S and Mary Elizabeth S.  He was the eleventh oldest of the twelve children. He had three half-brothers and a half-sister, named Alston, Curtis W, Reuben and Mary Ann Polly.
