Daniel David Dan was born on September 12th, 1848 in Stringtown Community, Newton county, Texas.  Daniel David Dan's father was John Robert Young Pap Marshall and his mother was Morning Caroline  Madie Jordan (Chickasaw PROB).  His paternal grandparents were Mathew Marshall and Mary Ann Polly McCullar McCullough; his maternal grandparents are Henry A Jordan and Mary Ann Roberts. He had seven brothers and four sisters, named James Mathew Jim, Isaac Spruill ? Hall, William Marion, Thomas Clayborn Claiborne, Henry Houston, John Robert Tom?, Asa Green, Sarah Jane, Sarah Jane, Mary Elizabeth S and Mary Elizabeth S.  He was the second oldest of the twelve children. He had three half-brothers and a half-sister, named Alston, Curtis W, Reuben and Mary Ann Polly.  He died at the age of 70 on November 30th, 1918 in San Augustine, TX.
