Hugh Lewis was born on May 24th, 1852 in TX.  Hugh Lewis' father was Samuel B Marshall and his mother was Mary Wingfield.  His paternal grandparents were John Marshall and Leah Ann Davis; his maternal grandparents were James Owen Wingfield and Sarah Whiteside. He had five brothers and a sister, named John L, Owen W, Caleb Wallace, Joseph Taylor, Samuel David and Emily.  He was the youngest of the seven children.
