Elizabeth Rankin's father was Samuel Marshall and her mother was Jane McCord Russell.  Her paternal grandparents were Samuel Marshall and Margaret Mary Cracroft; her maternal grandparents were Alexander Russell and Mary Anderson. She had eight brothers and two sisters, named John Reynolds, George Armstrong, unk, Samuel Alexander, James Gamble, William Russell, Armstrong Logan, George Alexander, Margaret Jane and Mary Ann.
