John was born in 1763.  John's father was William High Sheriff  Marshall and his mother was Grace Cracroft.  His paternal grandparents are William Marshall and Frances Willerton; his maternal grandparents were Robert of Hackthorn Cracroft and Anne Brown. He had four brothers named Henry Cracroft, William Collector of Customs Deputy Lieutenant , Anna Maria and Charles Robert.  He was the fourth oldest of the five children.  He died at the age of 39 in 1802.
