LaFayette's father was William Love and his mother was Carry Ann Edna Bonner.  His paternal grandparents were Thomas Love (Chickasaw) and Ho-Ma-Ho-Ta "Mahota" Emahota Incunnomar (half white). He had two brothers named George and Frank. He had two half-brothers and a half-sister, named Edward Davis, Hercules Martin and Sallie Senora.
