Jose was born about 1727 in Charles City County, Maryland.  Jose's father was Samuel Love and his mother was Mary Abbott.  His paternal grandparents were Thomas Love and Lucia Lucie Dobson. He had four brothers and a sister, named Samuel, Charles, William, Phillip and Nancy.  He was the fourth oldest of the six children.
