John was born in 1757.  John's father was Jacob Faris (Phariss Faris Farris) and his mother was Ruth Hayden (Hadden).  His maternal grandparents were Anthony Hayden (Hadden Haden, Hayden, Haydon, Haddon, Headen) and Margaret Douglas (Black Douglas POSS). He had a brother and three sisters, named Josiah, Jane, Martha Patsy and Frances Frankey.  He is the second oldest of the five children.
