Carrie was born on August 3rd, 1867.  Carrie's father was David Frost Castleman and her mother was Elizabeth Beard.  Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Castleman and Hannah Bushrod Frost. She had three brothers and three sisters, named William Henry, George Herbert, Thomas, Fannie, Annie Newman and Janie.  She was the fourth oldest of the seven children. She had a half-brother and three half-sisters, named Charlie T, Louisa Frances, Margaret J and Hannah.
