Lawrence was born in 1786.  Lawrence's father is Absalom Ailstock and his mother is Sally Goin.  His paternal grandfather was Chief Keigh-tugh-qua, or Cornstalk Shawnee chieftain and his paternal grandmother is Julia (Scot-Mulatto); his maternal grandparents are Goin and <Unknown>. He has seven brothers and three sisters, named John, Andrew, David, James, Absalom, William, Thomas, Katy, Polly and Elizabeth.  He is the fourth oldest of the eleven children.
