Chiyo was born on March 3rd, 1903. Chiyo's father was Matsusaburo Motoi and her mother was Ei Ono. Her paternal grandparents were Kichi matsu Motoi and Matsu Asai; her maternal grandparents were Yakichi Ono and Nami Ono. She had a brother and three sisters, named Keisuke, Tei, Tami and Hana. She was the youngest of the five children. She died at the age of 83 on March 17th, 1986 in Aizu Wakamatsu Jodo Temple Grounds.
