Emma was born in 1058 in Mortagne au Perche, Orne, Basse-Normandie, France.1   Emma's father was Robert de Mortaigne and her mother was Maud de Montgomery.  Her paternal grandparents were Seigneur Harlevin de Conteville and Heleve Arlette de Falaise; her maternal grandparents were 1st Earl of Shrewsbury Roger De Montgomery II and Mabel de Balleme  Talvas. She had two brothers and four sisters, named Richard, Guillaume, Agnes, Denise, Muriel and Sybilla.  She was the second oldest of the seven children.  She died at the age of 22 in 1080 in Toulouse, Jura, Franche-Comte, France.1
