Ferdinand, known as The Saint, was born in 1199.1   The Saint's father was King Alphonso of Leon IX and his mother was Berengaria of Castile.  His paternal grandparents were King Ferdinand of Castile II and Urraca of Portugal; his maternal grandparents were King Alphonso (The Noble) of Castile VIII and Eleanor Plantagenet. He had a brother and two sisters, named Alfonso, Urraca and Berengaria.  He was the second youngest of the four children.  He died at the age of 53 in 1252 in Seville, Spain.2
