Richard, known as The Red, was born in 1259 in Ulster Planation, Ulster, Ireland.1   The Red's father was 1st Earl of Ulster Walter de Burgh and his mother was Avelline Fitzgeoffrey.  His paternal grandparents were Lord of Connaught Ricahrd (The Great) de Burgh and Egidia de Lacy; his maternal grandparents were Sir John FitzGeoffrey and Isabel Bigod. He had a brother and two sisters, named William, Egidia and Agatha.  He died at the age of 67 on July 26th, 1326 in Athassel Monastery near Cashel, County Tipperary, Ireland.2
