William, known as The Protector, was born in 1146 in Pembroke, Wales, England.1  The Protector's father was John (The Marshal) Fitzgilbert and his mother was Sibyl D'Everaux.  His paternal grandparents were Gilbert le Mareschal and Marguerite de Venuz; his maternal grandparents were 1st Earl, Sheriff of Wiltshire of Salisbury Walter FitzEdward d'Everaux and Sibyl de Chaworth. He had two brothers and a sister, named John, Anselm and Margaret.  He was the second oldest of the four children. He had two half-brothers named Gilbert and Walter.  He died at the age of 73 on May 14th, 1219 in Caversham Manor, Berkshire, England.2
