Clearenda (Clara) was born in 1873. Clearenda (Clara)'s father was John Marion Barber and her mother was Sophia Fair Wesley. Her paternal grandparents were Charles Barber and Christina Wesley; her maternal grandparents were Shadric Wesley and Nancy Ann Watson. She had two brothers and four sisters, named John Perry, Robin Gossett "Goss", Abagail "Bid", Amanda Francis, Paralee and Rosa Bell. She was the fourth oldest of the seven children. She had three half-brothers and five half-sisters, named William Valentine, Andrew Washington, George Michael, Serelda Jane, Martha F, Elizabeth, Mary Catherine "Susie" and Elizabeth Ann.
