Jonathan was born in 1774 in Surry County, North Carolina.1 Jonathan's father was John Roberts and his mother was UNKNOWN Elizabeth. His paternal grandparents were John Roberts II and UNKNOWN Elizabeth. He had seven brothers and a sister, named John, Sr, James, Franky, Joshua, Pleasant B, George W, Jeremiah and Patsy. He was the fourth youngest of the nine children.-
