Katherine was born in 1468 in Iron Acton, Chipping Sodbury, Gloucestershire, England. Katherine's father was John Poyntz and her mother was Alice Cox. Her paternal grandparents were Nicholas Poyntz and Elizabeth Mill. She had four brothers and two sisters, named Sir Robert, Thomas, James, Maurice, Anne and Elizabeth.
