Henry Buford (Blackburn) was born on April 9th, 1847 in Columbus, OH.. Henry Buford (Blackburn)'s father was Gov. James Turner MOREHEAD and his mother was Lavinia Murdoch ESPY. His paternal grandparents were Armistead MOREHEAD Sr. and Elizabeth "Lucy" (Lucy) LATHAM. He had five brothers and a sister, named Josiah Espy, Boanerges, Frank C., Albert Hodges, Theodore and Maria. He had three half-brothers and a half-sister, named Robert L., Joseph Clayton, John and Lucy Armistead. He died at the age of 51 on March 26th, 1899 in Cincinnati, Hamilton Co., OH.. Henry's mother often spent her winters at her father's home in Columbus, Ohio, while Henry's father was serving his term as Senator and thus Henry was born at the house of his grandfather, Josiah M. Espy. At age 8, his father died and his mother removed with her four orphan boys to Urbana, Ohio, where in educating them for a useful life she could have the assistance of her brother, Henry P. Espy, and of her uncle, Dr. William M. Murdock.
Henry was a broker and banker, and formed the firms of H. B. Morehead & Co. and Morehead, Irwin & Co. In October, 1891, Henry Morehead withdrew to assume the control and management of the Cincinnati Commercial Gazette. He was president of the Cincinnati Mercantile Library, and a member of its board of real estate. He was for many years a director of the Procter & Gamble Company, the Ohio Valley National Bank, and at various times of several of the western railroads.
