Rucker E. was born in April 1898 in , , Oklahoma, USA.1 Rucker E.'s father was Seborn Cox and his mother was Sarilda Jane Shipley. His maternal grandparents were William Park Shipley and Dovey Crabtree. He had three brothers and four sisters, named Bert L., William Monroe, Grover L., Jessie A., Rosa Bell, Pearl J. and Minnie D.. He was the fourth youngest of the eight children. He had a half-brother named James Aden.-
