Roderick R. was born on October 28th, 1811.1 Roderick R.'s father was William Fortson and his mother was Ann Higginbotham. His paternal grandparents were Thomas Fortson and Rachel Winn; his maternal grandparents were Samuel Higginbotham and Jane Satterwhite. He had five brothers and five sisters, and also two siblings of unknown gender, named Samuel H., William Thomas, Elijah Satterwhite, Peter E., Aaron J., Jane, Rachel Wynn, Elizabeth, Frances, Ann, Jeptha V. and Elisha. He was the fourth youngest of the thirteen children.1 -
