De Gant was born about 1066 in Of, , Normandy, France.1 De Gant's father was Gilbert von Gand and her mother was Alice von Montfort. Her paternal grandparents were Ralph von Gand and Gisele; her maternal grandfather was Hugh von Montfort. She had seven brothers and four sisters, named Henry, Ralph, Hugh De, Geoffrey, Robert, Gilbert, Walter, Felia, Emma, Matilda and Alice. She was the oldest of the twelve children.1 -
