His paternal grandfather was Gilbert Talbot and his paternal grandmother is Gwenthlian verch Rhys Mechyll; his maternal grandparents were William III De Beauchamp and Isabel De Mauduit. He had two brothers and three sisters, named Gilbert, Thomas, Kathrine, Joan and Gwenllian. He was the second oldest of the six children.
