Anna was born in 1598 in Kirk Ella, Yorkshire, England. Anna's father was John Spofford. Her paternal grandparents are Robert Spofford and Agnes De Clare. She had three brothers and two sisters, named William, Thomas, John, Margaret and Jane. She was the oldest of the six children.
