David Bethune 
David was born about 1456 in Holkettle, Fifeshire, Scotland. David's father was John Bethune and his mother was Marjory Boswell. His paternal grandfather was John Bethune and his paternal grandmother is Katherine Stirling; his maternal grandparents were David Boswell and Elizabeth Melville. He had five brothers and five sisters, named John, Archibald, Robert, Andrew, James, Janet, Margaret, Elizabeth, Isabel and Grissel. He was the oldest of the eleven children.
