Mary Jane was born on December 7th, 1852 in Chittenden, Vermont. Mary Jane's father was Andrew J. Sargent and her mother was Ruth Edmunds. Her paternal grandparents were James Sargent and Naomi Harrington. She had five brothers and five sisters, named David E., Linus E., Leonard Parris, William E., Alphonso Fisk, Rhoda E., Nancy Ann, Jennie, Flora E. and Phoebe E.. She is the third oldest of the eleven children.-
