Byron Donalvin was born on January 29th, 1844 in Nauvoo, Hancock, Illinois. Byron Donalvin's father was Lauren Hotchkiss Roundy and his mother was Joanna Carter. His paternal grandparents were Shadrack Roundy and Betsey Quimby. He has two brothers named William Heber and Adelbert. He is the oldest of the three children. He had five half-brothers and six half-sisters, named Jared Washington, Lauren, Hyrum Koyle, John, Charles, Julia Rebecca, Laurette, Lillian Jane, Luella, Mary Ann and Zuella.-
