Elizabeth M. was born in August 1848 in Whetstone, Crawford County, Ohio. Elizabeth M.'s father was Elijah Seldon Field and her mother was Rhoda Ann Hillard. Her maternal grandparents were Peris Hillard and Clarrisa Kimball. She had four brothers and three sisters, named Noah Seldon, Bryon E., Orange Ferris, James Bird, Lydia Cath, Sarah Ann and Clarissa E.. She was the oldest of the eight children. She died at the age of 59 in 1907 in Hillsdale, Hillsdale County, Michigan.-
