William Colby 
William was born on December 17th, 1840 in St. Thomas, Elgin, Ontario, Canada. William's father was Philander Colby and his mother was Rachel Ferguson. His paternal grandfather was David Colby and his paternal grandmother is Sarah Farrington. He had four brothers and four sisters, named Lorenzo W., Fredrick E., Cyrus, George Wellington, Experience, Charlotte, Sarah Jane and Mary. He was the third oldest of the nine children. He died at the age of 78 on December 23rd, 1918 in Aredale, Butler, Iowa.-
