Her paternal grandparents were Robert "The Competitor" Bruce and Isabel De Clare; her maternal grandparents were Nicolaus Kennedy and Marjorie (Margaret) Stewart. She had five brothers and six sisters, named Robert, Edward, Nigel (Niel), Thomas, Alexander, Isabella, Matilda, Margaret, Elizabeth, Christiana and Mary.
