Sarah was born in 1801 in Granger, TN. Sarah's father was Semore York and her mother was Ann Elizabeth Wood. Her paternal grandparents were Semore York and Sylvania L Aldredge. She had two brothers and a sister, named Riley, Harrison and Elizabeth. She was the oldest of the four children. She had three half-brothers and four half-sisters, named Uriah, William Enoch Erick, John Nelson, Rachel, Sylvana, Mary (Polly) and Martha.-
