Matthias was born on June 1st, 1831 in Washington County, MD. Matthias' father was Jacob Hoffman and his mother was Magdalena Stouffer. His paternal grandparents were Matthias Hoffman and Mary Hoover. He had two brothers and eight sisters, named Jacob, John, Eve, Nancy, Mary E., Magdelena, Esther, Elizabeth, Leah and Sarah. He was the sixth oldest of the eleven children. He died at the age of 84 on October 18th, 1915 in Washington Township, Henry County, Ohio. He was buried in Heath Cemetery, Liberty Center, Henry, OH.-
