While visiting Vicksburg Ms. I went to Porter's Chapel Cemetery and discovered the graves of Jesse & Jane (Floyd) Barfield/Barefield and many of their children. Although these Barefields are not directly linked to my family I wanted to share with those of you who are from their line. They left a beautiful tribute behind on the graves of their family members. If you have never seen the graves, please go, it's a site you will never forget. These Barefields, (at times spelled Barfield and Bearfield, the family now spells it Barefield) were a shining example for all who carry the name.
The graves are each surrounded in brick about a foot high, on top of the brick lay a slab of what appeared to have been marble, it runs the length of each grave. The inscriptions were written on the slabs.
Inscriptions:

Her history was of beautiful comment on the duties of the wife, the mother, and the friend as she lived for the happiness of others her life was a pious offering to God and humanity to charity, prudence, and frugality she united the faith and hope of the christian; and has left a memory of unfading greeness in the hearts of those who survive and mourn her loss.
At the foot of her grave stands a DAR plaque with this inscription:
