William was born after 1225 in Cistercian Abbey, Valence, Charente, France.  William's father was Count Hugh de Lusignan X de la Marche and his mother was Queen Isabella Taillefer of Angouleme.  His paternal grandparents were Hugh de Lusignan IX and Mathilde Taillefer; his maternal grandparents were Aymer Taillefer of Angouleme and Alice de Courtenay. He had a brother named Hugh.  He was the younger of the two children. He had two half-brothers and three half-sisters, named Henry, Richard, Alice, Joan and Eleanor.  He died on May 18th, 1296 in Bayonne, Pyrénées-Atlantiques, France.  He was buried in Westminster Abbey, Westminster, Middlesex, England .

‌William and Joan were married in a religious ceremony on August 13th, 1247.  They had two daughters named Isabel and Joan.
