Baldwin FitzGilbert was born in Clare, Suffolk, England.  Baldwin FitzGilbert's father was Earl Gilbert FitzRichard de Clare I of Hertford and his mother was Alice de Claremont.  His paternal grandparents were Earl Richard FitzGilbert de Clare and Rohese Giffard; his maternal grandparents were Count Hugh de Creil de Clermont and Margaret de Roucy. He had three brothers and five sisters, named Richard FitzGilbert, "Strongbow", Hervey, Agnes, Alice, Margaret, Hawise and Rohesia FitzGilbert. He had a half-brother named John.  He died in Bourne, Lincolnshire, England.  He was buried in Lord Of Deeping & Skellingthorpe, Lincolnshire.
