Duncan was born about 1060 in Dunbar, East Lothian, Scotland.  Duncan's father was King Malcom III ("Ceanmor", "Longneck", "Bighead") of Scotland and his mother was Queen Ingeborg Finnsdatter of Holland.  His paternal grandparents were King Duncan ("the Gracious") I of Scotland or Strathclyde and Aelflaed Sybilla FitzSwiward of Northumbria; his maternal grandparents are Finn Arnesson and Thorbiorg Bergliot of Norway. He had a brother named Heth Aethelred. He had six half-brothers and three half-sisters, named Ethelred, Aethelred, David, "the Fierce", Paul, Bardolph, Mary, "Atheling" and Thora.  He died  due to slain on November 12th, 1094 in Monthecin.  He was buried in Dunfermline Abbey.


Duncan's family with Athelreda of Dunbar

‌Duncan and Athelreda were married in a religious ceremony in 1090.  They had a son named "the Noble".
