(Research):Thomas Brackett, sworn, testified on June 2nd:;
"I reside in going Snake Dist., C.N. Claimant is my brother, our fath
er is named Benjamin, our mother was named Susan Hubbard before she was ma
rried. She was a sister to Wilkerson Hubbard and to Matilda Parris. We we
re all taught that we were Cherokees, and called Cherokees back where we w
ere raised and were enrolled in 1851 and drew per capitas in 1832(sic, 185
2)..My parents always told me that they were enrolled and moved to this co
untry by the U.S. government.
I was born in 1838 in the State of Tennesee. My parents never lived here s
ince my birth. My father is a white man.

In Broom Town Valley were the farm improvements of Nelly (near Lookout
Mountain), her son-in-law, Grasshopper, and Richard Guess, presumable t
son of Sequoyah, Guess owned two improvements, one valued for $197.25
(plus $48 to compensate him for rent paid on the place in 1836), the
other known as Sparrow Hawk's place, which had been taken and cultivated
by white setters in the Spring of 1836. Also at Broom Town were
Cheenahwee (near Lumpkin's), Mesa'quah, and Coo'tire, mother of Aaron a
Dick Wilkerson, mixed blood sons of Edward and John Wilkerson of
Tennessee.
Aaron Wilkerson's home place at Island Town was assessed at $482.25,
including 20 acres of bottomland and a "Boat House" 14 feet long; he al
reported property at Duck Town at a place "where his mother formerly
resided." In addition, he claimed one of John Walker's improvements near
Walker Courthouse in District 7, as did Bushyhead. Dick Wilkerson still
farmed a few acres at Duck Town, his land adjoining Black Fox and Good
Money.
