Peter Hubbard Jr. 
Peter Hubbard was born on July 31st, 1756 in Cheraw District, Marlboro, SC, USA.1 Peter Hubbard's father was Peter Hubbard and his mother was Agnes Chiles. His paternal grandparents were John Hubbard Jr. and Mary Harrison; his maternal grandparents were Manoah Chiles and Anne Cheadle. He had four brothers and a sister, named John Carraway, William, William, Manoah and Elizabeth. He was the third youngest of the six children. He died at the age of 88 on August 26th, 1844 in Mulberry Grove, Bond, IL, USA.1 General Notes
Peter Hubbard, II enlisted in the Revolution as a private while residi
ng in Cheraw District, South Carolina in 1776. He served under Capt. Jo
hn Carroway and Capt. Samuel Wise and with Col. Wm. Thompson, was in the b
attle at Sullivan Island. He continued in various tours of duty until t
he end of the war. The above is from his pension papers. He received his p
ension in Bond Co., Illinois in 1832. He stated that he had served in Ge
n. Marion's Troops.
Sometime after 1797 Peter Hubbard, II moved his family from South Caroli
na to Montgomery Co., Tenn. He owned land there and had some slaves. His w
ife was Mary Ann, maiden name unknown, born 15 May 1767, died in Montgome
ry Co., Tenn. 21 May 1826. After his death two of the sons who were alrea
dy in Illinois, Peter and Philip, went back to Tenn. on horseback, rent
ed the land and hired out the negroes and brought their father back to Ill
inois with them. Peter II lived with his son Peter III but died at the ho
me of his son David at Mulberry Grove, 26 August 1844, aged 88 year a
nd 25 days. He was buried in the Brethren Cemetery, and his tombstone is o
ne of the few left. The tombstone bears this inscription, "He was a soldi
er of the American Revolution and by the side of the gallant Marion foug
ht many a hard battle for American independence."
"Here Hubbard lies, Tho Brittan's arms withstood,
Not for his own But for his country's good.
Though victor oft on famed Columbia's fields."
