Samuel S. , Rev. was born on January 8th, 1844 in Green Co.,Kentucky. Samuel S. , Rev.'s father was Abraham Hiram Underwood and his mother is Mary Roark. His paternal grandparents were Caleb Underwood and Elizabeth Mary Wardrum. He had five brothers and six sisters, named William A., James S., Lewis J., Abraham Vanzill, Randol Monroe, Cynthia, Elizabeth, Jane, Nancy A., Caroline Nancy and Mary E.. He was the sixth youngest of the twelve children. He died at the age of 62 on August 24th, 1906 in Taylor Co.,Kentucky. He was buried in Poplar Grove Cemetery,Taylor Co. Kentucky.General Notes
Ordained a Separate Baptist Minister 1872. Founded Otter Creek Separate Baptist Church and served as its first pastor. Had care of four churches. Pleasant Ridge Baptist was established on September 09, 1891 at the site where "grove meetings" were held among the trees. I was so named because of its location on a peaceful looking wooded ridge. Among the charter members were George Salamn, Tom Houston, Carr Skaggs, Jim Thomas Warren, J.H. Clark, Georgenna Johnson, J.C. Skaggs, Anderson Skaggs, Lenet Elkins, Jim Loyall, John Edwards, Alice Edwards, James Houston, Henry Perkins, Ncat Dlkins, Joseph Cutherland, Lee sutherland, Fred Elkins, Will Etherton, Hariett Etherton and Milton Etherton.
