Zachariah was born in 1789. Zachariah's father was John ,Jr. Skaggs and his mother was Catherine Hicks. His paternal grandfather was John Skaggs and his paternal grandmother is Ruth Bishop. He had three brothers and three sisters, named Charles, Richard, John ,3rd, Susannah, Rebecca and Lucretia. He is the second oldest of the seven children. He had four half-brothers and a half-sister, named Joseph, James, Richard, John ,3rd and Mary.-
