Skaggs and his paternal grandmother is Nancy Mayse. He had a brother and two sisters, named Thomas Jefferson, Caroline and Mary Jane. He was the oldest of the four children. He died at the age of 68 on April 11th, 1877 in Hart Co.,Kentucky. He was buried in Jones Cemetery,Hart Co.,Kentucky.-
