Sydney was born on May 9th, 1904 in Austin Co.,Texas.  Sydney's father was James Whitley Johnston and his mother is Martha Preibisch.  His paternal grandfather was James Washington Johnston and his paternal grandmother is Annie F. Whitley. He had two brothers named Worth and Willard.  He is the youngest of the three children.
